The image above is of the first exhibition at the Gallery Bugs Bunny in Chicago. The Gallery was founded by Robert Green in 1968 in protest to an exhibition at the Art Institute of Chicago called “Dada, Surrealism and Their Heritage”. The Gallery Bugs Bunny exhibition included six artists including Green, Franklin and Penelope Rosemont, Lester Dore, Eric Matheson and Schlechter Duval and was favorably reviewed , not only in college papers, but also in the Chicago Daily News, Sun Times, and Tribune.
Above image is from the Black Swan Gallery founded by Robert Green at 500 N. LaSalle, Chicago in 1976. It opened to the World Surrealist Exhibition titled “Marvelous Freedom, Vigilance of Desire”. This international exhibition included over 500 works by some 130 participants from 30-odd countries— making it the largest collective surrealist exhibition in history.
